Ancient Olympics
The very first Olympic games were held in 776 B.C. in Olympia Greece.(Platt 3-4) In those Olympics the only athletes who could compete were Greek men and they competed naked.(Ancient Olympics) Most of the events they competed in were track and field related events and some of them were sprinting, long jump and discus.(Tomkins) One of those events were the pankration, in which wrestlers can fight any way they want, just no biting or poking your opponent in the eye. (BBC) To have the Olympics all the cities in Ancient Greece had a Sacred Truce where they would put down the swords, so that the people of Greece can go to the Olympics peacefully.(Tomkins)
